Medically reviewed by Dr. Tiffany Delacruz, DVM
Get your pet's Rx refilled without another in-person exam
Your dog's Apoquel bottle is almost empty. Your cat's on Prozac and the last vial only has a week left. Booking another in-person exam just for a refill costs $150-300 and takes half a day. RexVet does refill visits over $64.99 video with a licensed DVM in Florida, New York, or Virginia — script sent to your pharmacy the same visit when appropriate.
What we can refill via video visit
- **Allergy & itch** — Apoquel, Atopica (oral), hydroxyzine, medicated shampoos
- **Flea & tick oral chews** — Simparica Trio, NexGard, Bravecto, Credelio
- **Heartworm prevention** — Heartgard Plus, Interceptor Plus, Sentinel Spectrum
- **Antibiotics** — Clavamox, doxycycline, metronidazole, cephalexin (for previously-diagnosed conditions)
- **Anti-nausea & GI** — Cerenia (oral tabs), famotidine, sucralfate, ondansetron
- **Behavior & anxiety** — Trazodone, Prozac (fluoxetine), gabapentin, alprazolam (short courses)
- **Topical treatments** — Otic ear medications, medicated eye drops, topical antifungals
What we cannot refill via telehealth
- **Injectables** — Cytopoint, Adequan, Convenia, insulin, vaccines. These require in-person administration.
- **Controlled substances (Schedule II-V)** — Opioids, phenobarbital, some anxiety meds. Federal + state rules require in-person prescribing.
- **New diagnoses requiring diagnostics** — A new condition may need bloodwork, X-rays, or physical exam. We'll refer you to a local clinic.
- **Chemotherapy or specialist Rxs** — Handled by your oncologist or specialist directly.
How the refill visit works
- **1. Book** — pick a $64.99 video slot at rexvet.org. Availability daily in FL, NY, VA.
- **2. Fill history** — upload the current Rx label, note when the last exam was, any changes in your pet
- **3. Video visit (10-15 min)** — DVM reviews history, discusses any concerns, confirms the medication is still appropriate
- **4. Rx sent same visit** — script goes to your chosen pharmacy (Chewy, CVS, Walgreens, local independent)
- **5. Recheck reminder** — DVM notes when the next in-person recheck should happen (typically 6-12 months for chronic meds)
Pharmacy fulfillment options
- **Mail-order home delivery** — Best for chronic-Rx auto-ship, not for an urgent refill; the pharmacy gives its own shipping estimate.
- **CVS, Walgreens, Walmart pharmacies** — Your script reaches them in 30 minutes to 2 hours and most fill common pet oral Rxs same-day. Fastest route for an urgent Rx; call ahead to confirm.
- **Local independent pharmacy** — Ask if they fill veterinary Rxs. Many do.
- **In-person vet clinic** — If your regular vet does refills, we can send the script there too.
- **We do not stock or ship medications ourselves** — RexVet writes the script; the pharmacy fills it.
Cost comparison — RexVet refill visit vs traditional refill visit
- **RexVet video refill**: $64.99 flat
- **Corporate chain in-person exam** (Banfield, VCA, BluePearl): $75-$150 exam fee before the Rx
- **Independent vet in-person exam**: $60-$120 exam fee before the Rx
- **Emergency clinic exam** (nights/weekends): $150-$275 exam fee before the Rx
- **RexVet is $64.99 for the visit + whatever Chewy/CVS charges for the medication itself.**

Emergency signals
When to contact a veterinarian
- Any new symptom (not just a refill request) — book a diagnostic visit, not a refill visit
- Pet is having a bad reaction to the current medication — get evaluated first before refilling
- You've missed multiple recheck dates — an in-person exam is required to continue chronic meds long-term
Frequently asked questions
Do you actually send the Rx during the visit?
Yes — when appropriate. If the DVM is comfortable authorizing the refill, the script is sent to your pharmacy during or immediately after the visit. Same-day pharmacy pickup for CVS/Walgreens is common.
How long is the visit?
10-15 minutes for a straightforward refill. Longer if it's been a while since your last visit and the DVM wants to check on your pet's status.
Do I need to fax over my pet's records?
Ideally yes. Upload the current Rx label and last exam summary during booking. If we need more, we can request records from your regular vet with your permission.
Can you refill controlled substances like phenobarbital?
No. Federal DEA and state rules require in-person prescribing of Schedule II-V drugs. Your seizure/anxiety-med refills for controlled substances go through your in-person vet.
Do you refill vaccines?
No — vaccines must be administered in person by a licensed vet. RexVet can send you the recommended vaccine schedule and refer you to a local clinic.
What if my pet needs a dose adjustment?
The DVM can adjust a chronic-med dose based on the video conversation and any bloodwork you upload. For meds like Prozac or Apoquel this is routine.
Do you take pet insurance?
Yes — most major providers reimburse RexVet visits (Trupanion, Nationwide, Embrace, ASPCA, Pets Best, MetLife, and others). The Rx itself may be reimbursed separately depending on your plan.
