Frequently asked questions

Can an online vet write a prescription?

Yes, when it is clinically appropriate and state law permits. Where the state allows a veterinarian-client-patient relationship to be established by video — Florida's PETS Act (HB849) does so expressly — a RexVet veterinarian licensed in Florida, New York or Virginia can write the prescription during the visit, filled by RexVetRx or sent to your local pharmacy. Controlled substances and cases that need hands-on testing still require in-person care.

Is RexVet a legitimate online vet?

Yes. Rex Vets Inc. is a federally registered 501(c)(3) non-profit and America's first non-profit vet telehealth service. Every visit is with a fully licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine — not a chatbot and not a technician. RexVet has served 50,000+ pet families and holds a 4.9-star average across 8,313+ verified reviews.

How much does an online vet cost?

A RexVet video visit is $64.99 flat, with no membership, no per-prescription fee and no after-hours surcharge. Express, the async symptom-based option, is $49.99. The Family Plan is $120 one-time and covers 4 visits plus unlimited messaging across the year — it never auto-renews.

What can a video visit treat?

Most non-emergency concerns: skin and ear infections, allergies, mild vomiting or diarrhea, urinary symptoms, anxiety and behavior, parasite prevention, chronic-condition follow-ups, prescription refills and second opinions. True emergencies — collapse, seizures, trauma, suspected bloat, toxin ingestion or severe breathing trouble — need an in-person emergency hospital.

Are you available at night?

Yes. RexVet veterinarians are available day and night, 24/7, including nights, weekends and holidays, with no after-hours surcharge. Your pet has to be physically in Florida, New York or Virginia at the time of the visit, because that is where our veterinarians are licensed.

What does the $64.99 visit include?

A full video consultation with a licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM): history-taking, video examination, treatment plan, and prescriptions where state law permits. The medication itself is priced separately.

Do I need to create an account before booking?

Yes — a brief account creation lets the vet review your pet's history during the visit. It takes about 90 seconds and your information is protected on the RexVet platform.

What if I'm not in Florida, New York, or Virginia?

RexVet is licensed only in those three states. State veterinary licensing rules require the vet to be licensed where the pet is located. If you're outside FL/NY/VA, we can't legally provide clinical care — but the educational pages on rexvet.org are still useful.

Can I pay with Klarna?

Yes. Klarna pay-in-4 splits any RexVet visit into four interest-free $30 payments — first $30 today, then $30 every two weeks. Soft credit check, no impact on credit score.
